Interview with Theresa: A Passionate Florist with Decades of Experience
How long have you been a florist for?
I’ve been a florist for 30 years, which shows my age! I started off in Tetbury, where I lived, and then I went to Lackham to study floristry. I moved to Cirencester 23 years ago and have been working here ever since!
What Inspires you?
I think day-to-day, you’re inspired by everything around you. Social media has definitely helped with different styles, fashions, and trends. We’ve seen many new trends in the last 30 years, let alone 23, so I feel inspired every day. I’m inspired by different people who walk through the shop with new ideas and by up-and-coming florists. I’m also inspired by my colleagues!
What’s a memorable event that you’ve had?
There have been loads! We’re really lucky in our area to have big houses and lots of parties. This year alone, we worked on a massive wedding, which was amazing. We used poles, a technique we hadn’t tried before, so we had to think outside the box. We also did a Midsummer Night’s Dream-themed event. The client gave us the theme and told us to go for it, so we created numerous floral dresses and other unique decorations. It’s always a challenge to figure out how to do something new, but that’s what it’s all about—passion and creativity. It’s exciting to try something different!
What’s your top tip?
My top tip is that it doesn’t matter what you do. From a buttonhole to a £30 bouquet to an incredible archway, everything has to be perfect enough to give to someone you love. So, it has to be perfect.
What’s your favourite thing to make?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite thing to make, and there’s nothing that I dislike. However, I enjoy doing funeral work. Creating that last gift to say farewell to someone is a privilege, and I think it’s really important to make something beautiful for someone who has passed away.
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Still here, but maybe a change of décor! I feel like I will just move with Oops a Daisy! and be here the next 5 to 10 years!
