Meet the Florist: Pamplemousse

Scroll

Welcome to our “Meet the Florist” series, where we showcase the talented florists who inspire us daily. We’re thrilled to introduce Pamplemousse, a delightful flower shop and café in Shaftesbury that has quickly become a local favourite. Founded by Hannah and Mollie in early 2020, Pamplemousse is known for its beautiful flower arrangements, stylish homeware and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping in for a fresh bouquet of seasonal flowers or enjoying a coffee in their café, Pamplemousse is a must-visit spot for flower lovers in Dorset.

We spoke with Jemima, the shop manager of Pamplemousse, to learn more about the florist’s journey, their inspirations, and what makes their flower shop so special.

What’s the story behind how the company started?

The company was founded in 2020, just one week before the lockdown. Hannah and Mollie opened the shop, served flowers for that first week, and then had to quickly pivot due to the lockdown. They switched to doorstep deliveries, while the café operated as a takeaway. Nearly five years later, the business has grown to include a second, larger shop with an expanded café, homeware section, and even more flowers.

What inspired you to become a florist?

My inspiration came from my mum and grandmother, who had beautiful cottage gardens and were always working with flowers. Bringing that sense of nature into the home is something I’ve always loved. I also find a lot of inspiration on social media, especially Instagram, where I see other companies doing incredible things with flowers. It constantly pushes me to want to create amazing designs.

Do you have a favourite season for flowers?

I honestly can’t choose a favorite season because I love them all! Spring and summer might be the best for me, but each season brings its own unique beauty, making it hard to pick just one.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a florist?

The most rewarding part is definitely seeing the joy on people’s faces when they receive one of our floral creations.

Do you have any advice to aspiring florists?

My advice for aspiring florists is to get hands-on experience in the workplace. Whether it’s landing a job or just gaining work experience, being around flowers firsthand is the best way to learn. Going to college or taking courses for training is also a great way to build a solid foundation.
